Donald “Don” Wayne Gfroerer, 70
WAREHAM – Donald “Don” Wayne Gfroerer, 70, of Wareham, passed away on January 24, 2025, at Tobey Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Laurene A. (O’Roak) Gfroerer, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. Don was the son of Joyce F. (Parnell) Gfroerer and the late David W. Gfroerer.
Born in Brockton, Don grew up in Halifax and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston before earning his degree at Bridgewater State University. He settled in Wareham 46 years ago, where he built a life centered on family, creativity, and service.
Don proudly served his community as a paramedic with Wareham EMS for nearly three decades, a role he approached with compassion and dedication. Prior to that, Don was a skilled craftsman and boatbuilder for Cape Dory Yachts. Beyond his professional life, Don’s vibrant personality shone through his many hobbies and talents. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in motorcycle rides, canoeing, boating, biking, and exploring new places through travel and cruises.
Those who knew Don best knew him as a gifted artist and woodcarver. He poured his heart into his creations, crafting intricate pieces that reflected his love for nature and beauty. Whether through his paintings, carvings, or other artistic endeavors, Don’s creativity was a testament to his thoughtful and expressive spirit.
Don is survived by his wife, Laurene; his mother, Joyce F. (Parnell) Gfroerer of Kingston; his son, Shawn Gfroerer and fiancée Norma of New Bedford; his daughter, Heidi LeComte and husband Kyle of East Providence, parents to Don’s cherished granddaughters, Lana and Kira LeComte. He also leaves behind his sister Jo-Anne Bosworth and husband Henry of Halifax; sister-in-law Ruthanne Donovan of Marshfield; and many other dear brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. Don was predeceased by his brother, Jeffrey Gfroerer.
Visiting hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A memorial service celebrating Don’s life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
