Elks donate dictionaries to all Wareham third graders

Minot Forest third graders received a literary boost on Oct. 9, courtesy of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks No. 73.

The Elks delivered 167 dictionaries to third graders, one for each student. The donation is part of a long-running annual tradition.

Elk Susan Gifford said lodge members had more dictionaries to deliver in the coming days, including for Fairhaven and Bourne students.

On Tuesday, Wareham students gathered briefly in the auditorium where the books were handed out. The program is part of a national program run by the Elks, designed to promote literacy.
