High schoolers add voice to Tri-County Choir
High school singers take the stage next to only other Vikings, but with students from schools across three counties.
The Wareham High School choir took their talents to Dighton-Rehoboth High School, Saturday, Jan. 17 to perform in the Tri-County Choir festival.
For over 20 years, singers from Wareham, Dighton-Rehoboth, Bishop Stang High School, East Bridgewater High School and Mansfield High School have joined forces to form one choir for the festival.
“The kids did a great job.” music director Jason Roth said. “There were around 90 kids all together and Wareham was around 20 strong.”
During the festival, each choir performs their own “feature songs” before the five schools join together to form one big chorus.
Roth said preparation for the concert was quick following their own winter concert. He said the choir had two weeks to prepare five songs for the festival.
“We start broad with listening to the music then get into some light humming to match pitches and then we eventually start to add in the words,” he said.
And rehearsal even continued up until the concert with a six-hour rehearsal day before the concert.
"It's a really fun festival with a ton of singing," Roth said.
