Margaret Johanna (Maki) Grassi, 90
WAREHAM – Margaret Johanna (Maki) Grassi, 90, of West Wareham, passed away on September 12, 2026, at home. She was the daughter of the late Toivo and Kaisa Johanna (Martikainen) Maki.
She was born in New Bedford, raised in Carver and lived in Wareham for many years. She graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1955 and from the Pierce Secretarial School.
In a time when women rarely owned any small business, Mrs. Grassi was ambitious enough to start one. She started her own Insurance agency in 1985 out of her home. Margaret J Grassi Insurance Agency still operates today as a pillar in the Wareham Community. She retired after 25 years in the agency and 50 years in the industry.
She was chair & treasurer of her high school class reunion committee until 2021. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Carver, a member of the Handicap Commission in Wareham and a member of the Rochester Lions Club. She served as a Brownie Leader, she loved coin collecting, travelling, Elvis, and dancing. Her favorite hobby was spoiling her grandchildren, mostly with McDonald’s, ice cream and home baked goods.
Survivors include her daughter, Deb Grassi her partner Dan Thompson of West Wareham; her son, Rick Grassi of West Wareham; a sister, C. Elsie (Maki) Robery of Wareham; her grandchildren, Matthew Martin his spouse Kendra, Andrew Martin his Fiancée Hailey Perry, Kenneth Martin and his spouse Amanda, Hannah (Grassi) Jepson her spouse Caleb, Siobhan (Robery) Silvia, and Timothy Robery; her great grandchildren, Ava, Hadley, Amelia, Rowan and many loved nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edwin Maki.
Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be private.
