New Cardi's Furniture opens in Wareham

May 6, 2016

When it comes to finding something to rest, recline or relax on, Wareham residents have a new shopping option.

Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses opened its 19th store at 3005 Cranberry Highway at 11 a.m. on Friday. It joins a new Ocean State Job Lot next door that held its grand opening in March. Both stores are located in a 125,000-square-foot building left vacant by Walmart in 2015 when the retailer moved that store to West Wareham.

Cardi’s is a Swansea-based furniture retailer started 87 years ago. Founded by an Italian immigrant, the chain is now owned and operated by brothers Nick, Ron and Peter Cardi who took over the family business in the 1970s. In 1989, the business underwent a major expansion when a 24-acre facility opened in Swansea.

Ron and Peter were on-site for Friday's opening with Nick scheduled to visit later in the day.

“We’re very excited to be here,” said Peter. “Wareham has always been known as the gateway to Cape Cod and now we know why. There are so many great businesses and attractions drawing people here.”

The large showrooms were packed with customers perusing items for sale soon after the store opened its doors for the first time.

Ron Cardi noted that the company strives to offer quality, affordable furniture.

“We want customers to get the right price the first time,” said Ron.

Regarding opening in Wareham, he said town officials were helpful during the permitting process.

“Everyone has been very cooperative and welcoming,” he said. “We’re very happy with the interactions and everyone has been professional.”
