Select Board approves road closure application, with conditions, for community get-together

May 31, 2022

An application for a road closure for a neighborhood get-together was approved by the Select Board, pending the submission of additional paperwork, during its Tuesday night meeting.

Suzanne Burke of the Parkwood Beach Association presented the group’s plans for a community get-together event on Sunday, July 3 from noon to 6 p.m., with a rain date of July 4.

Burke said she’s been running events at the beach area for 35 years, and they usually hold a party on their private beach area. Years ago, Burke said the group used to block the street off, and this year the association wanted to return to the idea by blocking off a road area near the beach’s front parking lot near Ash Street.

She said she had spoken with both a police official and the fire department and received approval from both.

Member Ron Besse expressed his happiness that events are starting back up in Wareham.

The board had a short discussion about whether the event was insured, which was resolved after brief consultation with town counsel and Burke.

The board unanimously voted to approve the association's road closure application, although the applicant will need to submit insurance information and share catering information with the Board of Health before they get a final sign-off.
