Select Board sets Fall Town Meeting date

The Wareham Select Board has confirmed the date for for Wareham's annual Fall Town Meeting, which will be held at Wareham High School at 7 Viking Drive on Monday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
The board formally set the date during its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The contents of the fall meeting are currently undetermined. The deadline to submit articles is on Monday, Sept. 14 by 12 p.m. and the Select Board will close the meeting warrant during its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
In addition to the town's governing boards and committees, residents can propose Town Meeting articles if they get signatures from at least 10 registered voters in Wareham. Articles can determine where the town's money goes, change its bylaws or zoning, and even pass non-binding resolutions to reflect the formal "stance" of the town
In July, Town Administrator Derek Sullivan speculated that a new $300,000 front-end loader for Wareham could be on the meeting agenda this year after significant snowfall in February.
The Department of Transportation gave the Municipal Maintenance Department department a $250,000 grant for the snow-removing vehicle, but funding for the remaining $50,000 has not yet been determined.
Unlike other nearby towns, Wareham's charter requires it to have two Town Meetings each year: an Annual Meeting in April and a Fall Town Meeting in October. The town can also hold Special Town Meetings on an as-needed basis.
Last year's Fall Town Meeting saw residents approving $1.3 million in community preservation spending and loosening the town's zoning restrictions on multi-family housing to be compliant with the state's controversial MBTA Communities Act.
The full Fall Town Meeting warrant is expected to be finalized and posted by Thursday, Sept. 17.
