It seems like the beginning of a joke, but a swan crossing the road on Main Street in Wareham became a serious issue for commuters on Monday. At around 3:45 p.m. two swans waddled down Merchants Way.  One brave bird walked right into the middle of Main Street, bringing traffic to a halt.

"I've already dealt with this before," explained resident Michael Morin. "This is the first time i've ever seen them in Wareham Center."

So, why did the swan cross the road? The quick thinking of one driver, Brian Texiera, seemed to answer that question, Doritos!  Texiera grabbed the bag from his truck and began luring the bird off the street with the savory snack!

"I just wanted to get him off the road," Texiera stated. "I figured they eat the stuff."

This is the second time in the past few days the rebel swan has been ruffling feathers in town. The same one allegedly got too close to comfort with customers at the Sovereign Bank on Main Street Friday. According to Branch Manger, Kim Hansler, the swan first appeared on Thursday in the bank's parking lot, but returned on Friday after she believes someone fed it.

"The swan was standing at the end of the ramp and wouldn't let people out," she explained. "It was hissing. Customers were jumping over the railing to get out."

According to Officer Bill Fihlman, the Wareham Police responded to the incidents and "moved the birds out of harms way."
