Take a peek at Peeps

The Wareham Free Library held another installment of its annual Peeps Diorama Contest this past spring — and attracted such interest that the voting deadline had to be extended to Wednesday, April 3.

The contest asks members of the community to construct displays featuring Peeps Marshmallow Candies as the main characters, all in search of the coveted “PEEP-les Choice Award.”

Library director Patrick Marshall had his eye on the competition between the town finance department and the health department.

The finance department has taken home a prize for each of its past two dioramas. This year, its race car display sits next to a Water Wizz reconstruction from the health department.

The two departments have sent “spies” to see how the competition is going, Marshall said: when the health department saw the finance department had lights on its display, they went out and added lights to their own.

Other dioramas of note include a space themed display entitled “Peeps on Mars,” a recreation of the New England Aquarium and a celebration of the High School Boys Basketball team’s back to back championships.
