A fiery orange color stood out amongst guests and chatter at the grand opening of Taunton Federal Credit Union.
The credit union held a celebration for its Wareham branch, 2512 Cranberry Highway, Wednesday, Feb. 11 and brought dozens of community members to enjoy the brand new space. The building replaces the longstanding Mr. Chris Hair Salon which moved to 137 Main Street in 2023.
With an orange-washed mural of landmarks across the gateway town hanging above patrons heads as they mingled, the bank aims to offer convenience.
"We were looking for an easy access location for all of our members," said President and CEO of the credit union, Nelson Tavares. "Being right here is having easy access to 1-95 and central to where people are conducting their shopping— their daily routines."
Founded in 1947, Taunton Federal Credit Union now services Bristol, Plymouth and Barnstable Counties in Massachusetts as well as most of Rhode Island.
Tavares explained that the credit union does have Wareham roots— technically. The company merged with the Commonwealth Utilities Federal Credit Union, whose Wareham customer base was acquired by Taunton Federal Credit Union.
"It was part of our movement to open up the full service location back where their whole market area. That also allows us to serve a broader area," he said.
The location is full service, offering ATMS and bank teller services inside and out.
Many familiar faces joined in to celebrate the new business like Select Board Clerk, Sarah Corbitt and Member Joey Still. The pair held the giant ribbon that was cut in honor of the opening.
Corbitt praised the opening as an opportunity to grow the town.
"We need thoughtful, beautiful development in this community that makes us all still so happy and proud to be here," Corbitt said.
Praising adding yet another company to Wareham's many businesses, Still said he's glad to see the credit union open.
"To see a business this size come here— it makes me more happy this town is getting bigger and better," he said.
Taunton Federal Credit Union is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
