Wareham Middle School sixth grade student Abel Mejias is December’s recipient of the Scotty Monteiro Jr. Award.

According to school officials: “He arrives to school with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. He continuously supports his classmates and demonstrates respect each day…His creative mind and artistic ability is evident in all his work. Abel exemplifies the qualities of kindness and respect that the Scotty Monteiro Jr. Award recognizes.”

The foundation’s cause is “Stopping the Violence” through education and awareness and rewarding excellent students. Each month, the Scotty Award is given to one student in each grade. Students receive a certificate, a bumper sticker and a Scotty T-shirt.
