Hammond students ratify constitution
Hammond Elementary kindergartners and first-graders celebrated Constitution Day on Sept.17 by ratifying their own constitution.
After learning about the U.S. Constitution, students from four classrooms added a rule or two to what would become the Hammond Constitution, a list of rules the students agreed to adhere to in school.
The Hammond Constitution will hang in the school's cafeteria. Each student will sign their name at the bottom, just as America's Founding Fathers did on the U.S. Constitution.
Hammond's Constitution reads:
We the people of Hammond School agree to the following rules:
Treat other people the way that you want to be treated.
Not bully anyone in school.
Always walk quietly in school.
Keep our hands and feet to ourselves.
Always speak respectfully to one another.
We will try our best.
We will keep our school clean.
