Besse Park bulkhead repairs begin

Sep 23, 2010

Though a groundbreaking ceremony was held in July, work to repair and improve the bulkhead at Besse Park officially began last Thursday.

The project, which should be completed by spring, will enhance access to the Wareham River and protect the sea wall from coastal storm damage. The current, deteriorated, bulkhead will be replaced, and upgrades will offer direct access to the water from Wareham Village and the westerly fishing pier. Parking for Besse Park visitors will also be added.

The town received $575,000 for the project from the state Seaport Advisory Council, which provides funding to coastal communities for the development of ports and harbors. Approximately $145,000 of local funds will be used.
