Judith Whiteside resigns from position on Board of Selectmen

Jan 10, 2018

Selectman Judith Whiteside announced on Jan. 9 that she will be resigning from her position on the board.

In a brief but tearful farewell, Whiteside said she plans to submit her letter of resignation tomorrow. If she does, the Jan. 9 Selectmen meeting was her last serving on the board.

“I do it at this time for personal reasons,” said Whiteside, who has worked in various capacities for the town of Wareham for 30 years, including several terms as a selectman.

There will not be a special election held to fill Whiteside’s seat since it’s close to election day this spring. Her spot will stay open until election day April 3.

“Judy is off on a new venture in life,” said Selectman Alan Slavin. “Personal life comes first.”

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said he has appreciated Whiteside’s time serving on the board.

“Very few people are as dedicated as she is,” Sullivan said. “She’ll probably leave a hole that can’t be filled.”
