Cultural Council analyzes survey, seeks grant applications

Aug 6, 2019

Wareham residents believe community events are important to maintain in town, according to the results of a town survey conducted by the Wareham Cultural Council.

The Council encouraged participants to complete the survey, which was conducted in April, to help council members set the funding priorities for arts, cultural, educational programs and other projects for the next few years.

The Cultural Council received 153 usable responses. The majority of respondents voted for the community events, followed by music, environmental sciences, government and history, theater, and, finally, arts and crafts programs.

Proposals for community-based projects will be sought by the Cultural Council for grants in 2020. Applications can be made online through the Massachusetts Cultural Council at www.mass-culture.org from September 1 to October 15.

“Any organization or an individual, if they have an activity or a program that they want to present, can apply,” said Cultural Council Chairman Kathleen Gleason. "It is open to everyone."

The Cultural Council promotes the availability of diverse cultural programming for all of Wareham’s citizens. Last year, the council awarded over $9,000 in grants to a variety of cultural events.
