David L. Walton, 83
WAREHAM- David L. Walton of Wareham, formerly of Norwood passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026 at age 83. He was the beloved son of the late Elin (Arrino) and Charles “Roy” Walton.
Dave was born and raised in Norwood, a town and community he truly loved. He graduated from Norwood High School where he was a member of the Hockey Team. He attended and graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine.
Dave spoke fondly of the wonderful memories and great friends he made during his time in Norwood and at Bowdoin. He never took those relationships and time with friends for granted. He treasured and nurtured those friendships.
After college Dave came back to Norwood where he secured a position at Ingersoll Rand as an Accounts Manager. Dave immersed himself in the overall operation of the company. He spent his career there where he became a beloved, valued, reliable employee. As always, Dave valued the friendships he made and kept in touch with them right up until his passing.
Although Dave loved Norwood, he eventually retired to his summer home in Wareham on Agawam Beach, a place that held countless wonderful childhood memories and many friends. Dave was not just our beloved neighbor and official greeter, but the Agawam historian, Sunset Cove wildlife expert, tide watcher, and staunch advocate for the summer residents who thought of him as our unofficial mayor.
Dave kept an “eye” on things during the winter months, and he loved his role as the keeper of the beach but was never happier than when the summer people returned to Agawam. He enjoyed watching the daily comings and goings of the boaters, his afternoon trip to the mailboxes where there was always someone up for a “little” chat. He especially delighted in watching the next generation of little ones, nets and buckets in hand, squeal with laughter as they spent hours on the pier catching crabs, minnows and anything else they could scoop up.
Needless to say we all have our personal memories of Dave whether it was a round of golf, any sporting event at any time, a Wareham Town Meeting, coffee at a local restaurant or just a chat on his deck, he cared for and treasured each and every one of you.
Dave spent the last few months of his life in and out of hospitals and eventually ended up at the Sunrise Assisted Living in Arlington. Those months were difficult ones for Dave, however, no matter where he was, he was grateful, kind and overly appreciative to all the people who helped him. Dave always managed a smile and a kind word to anyone who crossed his path. Special thanks to the medical and support staff from Tobey Hospital, Sippican Rehabilitation Center, Nova Leap Home Health, Sunrise Assisted Living, Always Best Care Senior Services and Winchester Hospital for all the love and support they showed towards Dave.
He was ever grateful for the cards, calls and well-wishes he received from countless friends and neighbors while he was convalescing. The kind words and messages always brought a smile to his face and an occasional tear to his eye.
Dave leaves behind many dear friends from his past and a community of friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
We will hold a celebration of Dave’s life on Saturday, August 15 at 12:00pm at 10 Gladstone Ave., Wareham MA.
Donations may be made in Dave’s name to The Agawam Beach Community, c/o Janice Dooling 18 Atlantic Ave., Wareham MA 02571
