Letter to the Editor: A paved paradise, put up a parking lot
The decision was made to tear down my garden’s sacred space adjacent Damiens’ Pantry. I wondered if the Executive Director considered the people who paid and were grateful for their small piece of organic heaven.
I don’t own land. I own my joy and creativity of creating what I planned to eat and the ability to share with others. I loved the social community and making new friends, the enjoyment of, yes, weeding. The fresh air, the watering, of watching life grow.
The earth cultivated my spirit. It rested my soul especially on those beautiful sunny days. A man contributed his abundance towards the pantry. A couple just moved to Wareham and they were so excited to grow their first garden. I can only speak for myself. You took away my sacred space, my little paradise, and put up a parking lot. Food for thought, food for mind, body, and soul.
I’ll miss you my garden friends.
