Historical antiques

The Wareham Historical Society will hold its 46th annual antique fair on July 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair is the society’s major fundraiser for the year.

Antiques will be at the Village Green, Center Park, on Main Street, and in the Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main Street.

The admission gate is at the corner of Main Street, across from the meeting house, Admission is $5 for adults, while children 12 years old and under are free.

A tour of the Fearing Tavern is included in the admission fee; tours will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Francis McNamee will be giving appraisals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., one item for $5, three items for $10.

Red, white and blue parade-ground colors

On Independence Day, kids will have the chance to cruise through the Swifts Beach neighborhood decked out in patriotic apparel for their own Fourth of July event hosted by the Swifts Beach Improvement Association.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. starting at 38 Pleasant St. The organization encourages everyone who comes to dressed up for the occasion, with prizes available for best dressed attendees.

Saturday, July 6

Fleet-footed blessings

On Saturday, July 6, the Onset Bay Association will continue the Fourth of July festivities with a Blessing of the Fleet Boat Parade.

The parade and the boat blessing ceremony starts at 10 a.m., with registration available on the Onset Bay Association website. Prizes will be given for the best dressed boat.

Kids’ parades will follow after the Blessing of the Fleet, with bikes, doll carriages and pets all encouraged to take part. Registration is available at the Pier the morning of the event.

Scavenge for patriotism

The Swifts Beach Association will have a scavenger hunt on Fourth of July weekend, leading up to an ice cream social at on Saturday, July 6 at 7 p.m.

The form for the scavenger hunt costs $5 can be picked up at the association’s kid’s bingo event, held Friday, July 5 at 7 p.m. Scavenger hunt sheets can be returned at the ice cream social; the social costs $5 per person.

Tuesday, July 9

The story of America’s greatest game

The Wareham Gatemen will hold a special program on Tuesday, July 9 at 10 a.m., in partnership with the Wareham Free Library.

Join players at Spillane Field, 54 Marion Road, where they will read stories to kids of all ages. Be sure to bring catching gloves.

Wednesday, July 10

Sour-do-or-doughn’t

Join Sourdough Food Blogger Brandon as he teaches how to build, maintain, and store a sourdough starter.

Attendees will even get to go home with some of his starter to be able to get baking.

Program is free but registration is required so that Brandon can have an idea of how much sourdough starter to bring. Please register at least 3 days prior to the event. You may still sign up later than 3 days to the event, but there may not be enough supplies to bring home for those who sign up late.

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Wareham Free Library.

The event will be held at the Wareham Free Library, 59 Marion Road, and will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10.

Meet live animals at the Wareham Free Library

Learn about animal conservation up close at personal at the Wareham Free Library on Friday, July 12. Two shows will be held, at 1 p.m. and at 2 p.m.

What is an endangered species? Why are many animals and their habitats disappearing? This program will teach about endangered species in the wild here in New England and around the world, and show what can be done to help them.

Don’t miss meeting some of their animal relatives up close and personal.
