Wareham School District to launch revamped website
Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood announced the Wareham School District will be unveiling a new website starting Nov. 21. A preview was shown at the School Committee meeting on Nov. 20.
“Doesn’t it look a bit like news site? That’s exactly what it’s going to be like,” District and Technology Outreach Coordinator Jaime Rebhan said. “I have a goal to get at least one fun, interesting, cool thing up about schools every day.”
The website will include a calendar which will be driven by staff-created content. Committee member Geoffrey Swett referred to it as potentially being an “incredibly valuable tool.”
“It will only be as good as the input,” Swett added.
“If each school does it themselves, it’s going to be a lot faster,” Rebhan replied.
Each school’s website will include more individualized content.
Additional features will include an alumni blog. Also, there will be a “beyond school time” webpage that will include content concerning activities for children as well as parents.
Another feature will allow people to anonymously alert Shaver-Hood to any issue. Shaver-Hood will receive an email from the feature.
“You can report whatever you would like us to know,” Shaver-Hood explained.
Important updates, like immediate school closings for snow, will be displayed when necessary.
Rhonda Veugen, chair, suggested mimicking unitedway.org and have clear links for people to either give, volunteer or advocate for the district.
“At the last meeting, [Swett] said if someone was thinking about leaving Wareham schools to think again, and it’s because of stuff like this,” said member Kenneth Fontes.
“We have a couple more bugs to work out, but it should be going live online tomorrow,” Rebhan said.
Flaherty jokingly suggested those responsible for the website should be sent to Washington to help with healthcare.gov.
“I can’t take credit for how this site looks,” Rebhan said. She gave credit to Christopher Tahan and Justin Viera of the technology department for the site’s development.
