Onset Prudential Committee seeks modest budget increase

Mar 23, 2018

Onset Fire District officials will ask voters to approve a modest increase to the district’s annual budget for next year.

On Thursday, Clerk/Treasurer Mary McCoy said the Prudential Committee’s current proposed budget for next year is $1,045,950, up $27,100 from the previous year. The budget covers salaries and operating costs for the Onset Fire District.

Officials are still working to finalize the budget, which must be approved by voters at the Onset Fire District Annual Meeting, set for May 21. All registered voters living in Onset may participate.

The last day to get items on the annual meeting’s agenda is April 12.

The Onset Fire District supplies water and fire protection for Onset. A separate Wareham Fire District performs the same function in Wareham. Separate from the Town of Wareham, the Fire District is overseen by an elected Prudential Committee and Board of Water Commissioners. The district sets the water rates and allocates funds for the Onset Fire Department.
